Meet Deb Broberg, executive director of Real Time Talent (RTT), a Minnesota employer-led public-private collaborative whose mission is to improve alignment between employer talent needs and the talent supply in the market. A 2019 TPM Academy graduate, Deb brought TPM® to Minnesota to enhance the work of providing hyper-localized, current (real-time) industry labor market insights, analysis, and consultation to the employer community and beyond. Since Deb has joined the TPM network, she has started three collaboratives on mental health professionals, commercial drivers, and long-term care nursing assistants.

Here is a sampling of the great work Deb and the RealTime Talent team have accomplished in Minnesota:

  • After using TPM strategies to support the findings of a severe shortage of qualified professionals in the mental health sector, members of the collaborative decided to adjust the baseline educational requirement to the associate’s degree level. Employers experienced a reduction of training costs, an increase in the quality of employees, and improved retention of workers.
  • In 2023, there was a high demand to fill almost 15,000 jobs that required a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Employers were competing for talent from a limited pool because there were over 60 roles that required a CDL, including traditional truck drivers. Using the TPM framework, RTT analyzed the employers’ current hiring process to identify where candidates were falling out to determine how they could become more efficient. Employers were also able to compare their hiring processes to peer employers to determine opportunities for improvement.

Deb has also contributed to the National Learning Network as a TPM Academy Faculty, Fellow, and Mentor, offering her expertise to both new and experienced members of the network. When asked about her favorite part of being a member of the NLN, Deb shared what she enjoys most: “Having access to TPM practitioners across the country who are more than willing to share and serve as thought partners. TPM work is never the same from collaborative to collaborative, however, lessons learned, and promising practices inevitably help accelerate progress. The U.S. Chamber Foundation support of the NLN is invaluable, as their approach continues to be actively listening to what the NLN members need and find most beneficial. It's an amazing network of experts.”
