Wildfires in Southern California, made worse by extreme drought and strong winds, have been burning across the Los Angeles County area since January 7 and continue to devastate the region.
The fires have covered more than 250,000 acres, destroying thousands of homes and businesses and calling for the evacuation of more than 500,000 residents. In Los Angeles and San Diego counties, entire neighborhoods are without critical infrastructure, such as power and clean water. The fires have also created air quality issues, causing health concerns and school closures in Los Angeles County.
Response is underway from all sectors to stabilize the situation and begin recovery in affected communities. As part of this, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation is monitoring the rapidly changing situation through an extended network of state and local chambers. Resources on how to assist impacted communities are available on this page.
Briefing: Tuesday, January 14 at 2pm ET
The U.S. Chamber Foundation will host a briefing to provide an update on the response to the fires, emerging needs, and how the business community can play a pivotal role in delivering relief.
