Since 2011, Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) has worked to create meaningful employment opportunities for transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses. Working with a broad array of private and public sector partners, as well as our extensive network of businesses, we provide our nation’s heroes with the right tools, resources, and connections to get the job done.
Through world-class hiring events, digital programs, upskilling opportunities, and fellowships, HOH has developed and cultivated a rich pipeline of military-connected talent ready for businesses nationwide.

On September 11, 2001, the world was forever changed. For Jienelle Herndon, the tragic events of that day sparked a renewed sense of duty and purpose. “It was a moment that really made you pause and think about what you could do to contribute,” Herndon recalls. Motivated by this sense of duty, she enlisted in the Air Force, determined to make a difference.

For the past decade, military spouses have experienced an unwavering unemployment rate of 22%, making it one of the highest unemployed demographics in the United States. According to new research, their spouses' military service is also negatively affecting their ability to maximize employer-sponsored retirement benefits, build their long-term financial futures and find careers that offer competitive salaries equivalent to their professional experiences and/or education levels. The Hidden Financial Costs of Military Spouse Unemployment survey, conducted by Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) in collaboration with Syracuse University's D'Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) and First Command Financial Services Inc., shines a light on the impacts of being a military spouse.
