Desmian (Des) Alexander is senior coordinator of global resilience programs at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Des supports the disaster response and resiliency portfolio, driving key initiatives supporting small business resilience and recovery, international humanitarian response, and the annual Building Resilience Conference.

Previously, Des was a hazard mitigation and community resilience planner at Tetra Tech where she co-wrote ten hazard mitigation plans and community resilience plans for various cities and counties across the country. Des started her career in disaster resilience and social impact as an American Red Cross volunteer doing client services and disaster response. Her other experiences include City Year San Antonio, AmeriCorps VISTA, the Texas Hunger Initiative at Baylor University, and the Homeland Security Advisory Council in Los Angeles, CA.

Des graduated from Fisk University with a B.A. in English and Spanish and with master’s degrees in public policy and urban planning from the Sol Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California.
